Alpine Adventure!
Gravel, MTB, Hiking, Trail Running, & Wild Swimming in the Austrian Alps.
May 23 – 30, 2026
We’re headed back to our favorite mountains from last year — yes, it really does look like the pictures — a stunning area with beautiful vistas, yummy mountain-hut lunches and a high-quality train network if you want to cut a day short. We had so much fun last year. Let’s go back!
Our home base will be Bichlbach. It’s a cute town with everything we need: a restaurant across the street, a nice bike shop, a train station around the corner, a supermarket with a bustling morning cafe, and car-free trails that start right from town. We’ll have a huge loft with room for us all to gather, hang and dine together, and apartments suites across the street with their own kitchens and saunas.
Ride a trail network offers everything from champagne gravel to lakeside singletrack, car-free paved paths between towns, and rocky ascents. We approach the week with a library of routes and discuss next day’s options at dinner with attention to the weather, group interest, exertion and fatigue. We’ll have riders on gravel bikes, MTBs and eMTBs. Last year some cyclists covered over 350 miles for 7 days of epic gravel. Other riders enjoyed 4 or 5 days of cycling mixed with mountain hiking and rest days.
Enjoy a mix of milder hikes that circumscribe alpine lakes and challenging climbs up into the surrounding mountains. Fit a half-marathon or marathon run into the week, or enjoy easy-going hikes. We’ll start some hike/runs from Bichlbach and also use train and also van shuttles to explore all the adjacent valleys. Pack lunches or enjoy a proper lunch at one of the mountaintop restaurants that dot the area.
Wild swimmers, hop in! Explore the mix of smaller and larger lakes that are great for wild swimming. Kick out to your own private island. Enjoy the exceptional water clarity and electric blue color from the high limestone content. Relax in sauna recovery after your swims!
We care about combining good food with awesome people. We start with a intake survey and check in with guests each afternoon before the daily market shopping & planning. We’ll enjoy breakfasts optimized for adventure, alpine lunches at traditional mountain-top restaurants, afternoons back at the chalets with recovery appetizers, and four-course dinners with fresh salads and plenty of protein to refuel for the next day’s outing.
We recommend arriving in Munich on Friday the 22nd, or earlier to enjoy an amazing city and our meetup at Hoftbräuhaus in the city center on Friday night at 6:30pm. On Saturday, we’ll schedule van pickups between 10am-12pm in the Munich central area for those traveling with standard luggage, and shuttle you to the mountains. If you’re traveling with a bike in case, we’ll guide how to travel via the excellent train service to the mountains and cover your train fare. Both transit options take about 2.5 hours to arrive in Bichlbach.
Add some days in Munich, the heart of Bavaria, which blends traditional charm with vibrant modern life. Visitors can explore Marienplatz with its stunning Gothic architecture and the iconic Glockenspiel, or dive into world-class art at the Pinakothek museums. Nature lovers enjoy the vast English Garden, perfect for picnics and even river surfing. Munich’s food and drink scene, especially its famous beer gardens and historic Hofbräuhaus, captures Bavarian warmth and flavor. With history, art, and friendly hospitality, Munich offers travelers an unforgettable blend of culture and fun.

Hugh Rodman has been cycling throughout his life, although it took decades to realize that it was way more fun to do with other people. One of the few things he's won in this short life was a cooking competition.
Becky Margulies decided that running 50 miles was too short so this year she’s going for her first 100. Her meditation practice has evolved over several decades at centers across California and India.
